Circle of life: Raising fish helps raise plants in new farming method

PHOENIX – Backed by a $108,900 Environmental Protection Agency grant. Mesa Community College teamed up with RighTrac Inc. and the Roosevelt School District to develop aquaponics, a new type of farming that combines raising plants with raising fish. The system uses nutrient-rich wastewater from the fish to water and feed the plants through a series of pipes. While the process relies heavily on water, it actually saves water than traditional farming practices in the long run.=
