TEMPE – Arizona State University’s ice hockey team will be elevated from a club sport to NCAA Division I varsity play, thanks to a $32 million donation from father and son Don and Chris Mullett,  the largest gift in Sun Devils athletics history. The team will phase in to NCAA varsity competition over the next three years, playing a full Division I schedule in 2017. It will be the 23rd varsity sport at ASU, and with the addition of a men’s sport the school is looking at adding a woman’s sport, with women’s lacrosse and rowing currently under consideration.
