PHOENIX – The Arizona Board of Education voted replace the AIMS test with a new test to assess school performance, the Arizona Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching. State school students should start taking the new AZ-MERIT test in spring, and the state will use the results to assign letter grades to individual schools for their performance. But the board voted last week to use other tests as well – including SAT and Advanced Placement tests, for example – when determining a school’s grade. It would be up to individual schools to decide whether to make the additional tests a requirement for students.
