Brnovich claims victory in attorney general race

PHEONIX – Republican Mark Brnovich is celebrating victory over Democrat Felicia Rotellini in the race for Arizona attorney general.

Brnovich held a wide lead with most results counted.

Brnovich told Cronkite News that he plans to celebrate with ”hopefully with a few pops here in a few minutes.”

He said his first step as attorney general will bring law enforcement resources together and focus on the Super Bowl.

“I think it’s important to bring all the law enforcement resources together and to make sure we have a coordinated effort to go after folks that are smuggling drugs and people into this country, go after those that are engaged in the sex-trafficking trade,” Brnovich said.

Brnovich was the director of Arizona’s Department of Gaming between 2009 and 2013. He resigned in order to run for attorney general.

Rotellini is an attorney at a private law firm. She unsuccessfully ran for attorney general in 2010.

Brnovich will replace current Attorney General Tom Horne, who has faced criticism for personal and career scandals. Both Brnovich and Rotellini have criticized Horne.
