PHOENIX – Cronkite News projects that U.S. Rep. David Schweikert, R-Fountain Hills, will beat out Democratic contender John Williamson to win another term.

Early returns show Schweikert with an overwhelming lead.

Schweikert has served in Congress since 2011. He serves on the Committee on Science, Space and Technology and the Committee on Small Business.

Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was a state representative between 1991 and 1994. He served as Maricopa County treasurer between 2004 and 2007.

Schweikert has argued for securing the U.S.-Mexico border and has said he disagrees with income tax increases on any tax bracket.

Williamson supported humanitarian aid to Central American countries and Mexico to curb immigration flows and supported the full implementation of the Affordable Care Act, according to his website.
