WASHINGTON – Immigrant farm workers protested in front of the White House by setting a Thanksgiving table. They argued that since they grow much of the food eaten in American homes, they should have the same rights as anyone else. The foods that will be set out for Thanksgiving this Thursday, from the mashed potatos to the turkey, were mostly grown by immigrant labor, the workers said. And they are hopeful that an executive order from President Barack Obama will give them a reason to be thankful. The president has told United Farm Workers that his order will shield an estimated 250,000 farm workers from deportation.
