In the post-Obamcare landscape, Arizona health care co-op gives members a voice

TEMPE – Meritus is an insurance company that launched in Arizona last year under a little-noticed provision of the Affordable Care Act that allowed for the creation of health-care cooperatives. Unlike a conventional insurance provider, the nonprofit is governed by its member consumers. Meritus CEO Kathleen Oestreich says this type of insurance gives members a voice by putting them in charge of their benefits and even offers access to non-traditional medicine.
