PHOENIX – Retired volunteers in AARP’s Experience Corps help children who are reading below grade level get back on track – and they get a rewarding feeling themselves in the process. Under the program, seniors help tutor children in reading using games, pictures, and different interactive techniques. Each student gets at least a one-hour private session with a tutor every week. The program has been successful nationwide and has been launced in 10 schools in the Phoenix area.
