FLAGSTAFF – The United Nations says there are 174 languages spoken today among the 566 federally recognized Native American tribes in the U.S., but experts predict that most of thsot languages could be dead by 2050. One Flagstaff grade school is working to keep the Navajo language alive, with a curriculum taught in both English and Navajo. Native Americans say it’s important to keep the language alive, since it carries the people’s culture and traditions with it.
